Truss Bridge Project

Explore the design and 3D printing process of my truss bridge designed for Mechanics Lab.

Final Design

The design combines trusses of various dimensions made to optimize weight distribution while following the required constraints.

Constraints and Results

Explore the parameters required and the design process involved in creating this bridge.

Constraints:
  • Length - (8-10")

  • Width - (3.5-4")

  • Height - (4-5")

  • Weight - (150g)

Final Dimensions:
  • Length - 9.25"

  • Width - 4"

  • Height - 4.5"

  • Weight - 125g

Results and Performance:

The metric that my bridge was judged by was the ratio between the load applied before fracture and the weight of the bridge. My bridge yielded a ratio of 1.072 by holding 134 lbs. before fracturing. The point of failure was one of the pins on the bottom of the bridge. More details are outlined in the poster.
